THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A convict in the T P Chandrasekharan murder case allegedly assaulted a jail officer at the Central Prison, Poojappura, here on Friday.The Poojappura police have registered a case in connection with the incident. According to the police, Rafeeq, the accused, abused and tried to assault a deputy jailor following a dispute over using a phone.
Prisoners can use a prepaid phone at the prison. Rafeeq allegedly tried to dial a number other than what was entered in the register. The deputy jailor prevented his attempt which triggered an altercation. Soon other convicts in the T P murder case joined him for assaulting the officer. The injured officer has been taken to the General hospital.
Last month, two mobile phones were seized from the cell of Annan Shijith, another convict in the TP murder case. A preliminary investigation into the incident revealed he had made hundreds of calls from the phone.
