KOCHI: Film editor Beena Paul, a member of Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), an association of women in Malayalam film industry, has termed the arrest of actor Dileep as shocking.
She said it was saddening to know that a person from within the industry had a role in the crime of abduction and sexual assault of a popular Malayalam actress.
“We are extremely pained that a person from the industry was involved in the incident. But at the same time we believe justice has to be served at any cost. The rest is for the court to decide. We aren’t speculating anything and we have total trust in the court and the police,” she said.
The incident in which the actress was assaulted in a moving car had contributed to the formation of WCC.
The association had also met Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan seeking his intervention in issues plaguing women in the industry. The association had also strongly come out against attempts to malign the victim.
