In a development that shook Mollywood, Malayalam film star Dileep was on Monday arrested by the Kerala police in the case of abduction and sexual assault of an actress in Kochi in February.
Police made the arrest after they established that Dileep and Nadirsha had been involved in the conspiracy to abduct the actress. Police had earlier arrested Pulsar Suni, who, according to the actress, committed the act.
Though Dileep and Nadirsha were taken into custody early on Monday morning, the police confirmed the arrest only by evening. Dileep and Nadirsha were being interrogated at a secret camp near Aluva in Ernakulam district. Last week too, Dileep had undergone a marathon interrogation (READ MORE)
The case came back into focus last month after a letter purportedly written by Pulsar Suni to Dileep, which was leaked to the media, went viral on social media.
Kerala police chief Loknath Behera has denied reports that Nadirshah, director and close companion of Dileep, was arrested or taken into custody.
Addressing a news conference late in the evening, Behera, who is the director general of police, however, confirmed the arrest of Dileep.
"No," he said, replying to a question whether Nadirshah was arrested. "He has not been taken into custody too," he answered, to another question.
Behera did not reveal anything further saying, "The investigation is like a river, it will flow. Nobody can predict the future."
