THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Taking the medical college graft scam head-on, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Friday said BJP national leaders are also involved in the scam. What came out so far is ‘just the tip of the iceberg,’ the CPM leader said. BJP leaders have collected bribe from 70 medical colleges across the country - including seven in the state- promising to get sanction for these colleges, he said.
At a press conference here on Friday, Kodiyeri said the BJP has become a party of the corrupt. The medical college scam is not an isolated incident. “Bribes were collected from 70 medical colleges that were denied approval last year. However, the money has not been fully paid,” he said.
Kodiyeri said the bribe charges cannot be covered up just as BJP’s internal matter as it is a major scam. “As senior BJP leaders, including Central leaders, are involved, it is a scam involving the Union Government. The RSS and the BJP have decided to collect `1,200 crore from Kerala,” Kodiyeri said.
Under the cover of power at the Centre, the BJP has been indulging in hawala and counterfeit currency activities. Referring to the arrest of a BJP leader in Thrissur, the CPM state chief said while Modi speaks about anti-corruption, criminal activities are going on in the party. UAPA should be invoked in the counterfeit currency case.
“A comprehensive probe should be initiated into the medical college scam. The Vigilance has already registered a case. Since Central leaders are involved, an investigation by a Central agency should be initiated,” Kodiyeri said, adding the demand for a judicial probe has come up in Parliament. Kodiyeri said it is not the first time the BJP is indulging in corruption. During the previous BJP regime at the Centre, it was the petrol pump scam that had rocked the party.
