38-year-old man arrested for blackmailing actress

In yet another case of blackmailing a female actor in Kerala, the Ernakulam North Police arrested a youth on Sunday for posting defamatory photographs of the actor in social media.

KOCHI: In yet another case of blackmailing a female actor in Kerala, the Ernakulam North Police arrested a youth on Sunday for posting defamatory photographs of the actor in social media.Police officers said Kiran Kumar, 38, hailing from Palakkad and currently residing in Udayamperoor, near Tripunithura was arrested following a complaint lodged by the Malayalam actor.“Kumar was in a relationship with the actress during 2008. However, she ended the relationship when she came to know he was married.” said a police officer.

“Subsequently, Kumar used to visit her shooting locations and residence and create scenes. He demanded `75 lakh and threatened if she failed to give the money he will post sensitive photos he took on social media. As she complained about the matter to the police, he did not upload the photos at the time,” the officer said. He uploaded the photos recently after the actress became popular in movies.  The actress’ photographs with a youth have gone viral and was widely shared via WhatsApp and Facebook the other day. Following this, the actress approached the police.

“The preliminary inquiry suggests a few persons are also involved in propagating the photographs on social networking sites. They will also be arrested,” said Ernakulam Assistant Commissioner K Laljy. The accused has been booked under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of IPC and 66 (A) of the IT Act.

Cheating

The cops said the youth was in a relationship with the actress during 2008. However, she ended the relationship when she came to know the accused was married.

He demanded Rs 75 lakh and threatened to post the pictures on social media if she failed.
