KOZHIKODE: All Kerala Self Financing School Federation (AKSFSF), which has over 50,000 women teachers under its umbrella in Kerala, on Monday, announced 'first day of period leave' policy.

The AKSFSF also decided to appoint qualified transgenders as teachers in schools under their Federation.

Ramadas Kadirur, the AKSFSF president, said, "Introducing period off will benefit over 50,000 women teachers working in about 4000 self-financing schools in Kerala. The new leave system will be introduced from August 1. We decided to introduce the new off system because the majority of the work force in unaided schools are women."

The Federation also decided to start recruiting transgenders as teachers to help them become part of the mainstream society.

"We will give opportunity to qualified transgenders to work as teachers in our schools," he added.
