Three killed, 32 injured as buses collide at Ayoor

Three persons were killed and 32 others sustained injuries as a private bus rammed a KSRTC superfast bus at Ayoor, here on Friday.

KOLLAM: Three persons were killed and 32 others sustained injuries as a private bus rammed a KSRTC superfast bus at Ayoor, here on Friday.

The victims are Ramya Kottickal Varkey (27) of Perumbavoor, Romy George Varghese and an unidentified person. Ramya was an employee of Infosys while Romy was working with UST Global at Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram.

Majority of the passengers in the KSRTC bus were IT employees who were returning home for the weekend. The accident occurred around 6.30 pm at Kambamkode bridge, on Ayoor-Vayakkal Road.

The driver of the private bus Janatha, plying from Valakom to Ayoor allegedly lost control over the wheel as he tried to avoid a motorcycle.

The bus hit a tree first and then rammed into the KSRTC superfast which was on its way to Angamaly from Thiruvananthapuram.

According to Kottarakkara Traffic Police, the injured, mostly women, were admitted to various hospitals including Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, Venjaramoodu Gokulam Medical College, Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital and Anchal St Joseph’s Mission Hospital.
