BJP brass calls on Governor seeks Thomas Chandy’s disqualification

The BJP on Sunday urged Governor P Sathasivam to disqualify Transport Minister Thomas Chandy alleging he had furnished false information in his affidavit to the Election Commission.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The BJP on Sunday urged Governor P Sathasivam to disqualify Transport Minister Thomas Chandy alleging he had furnished false information in his affidavit to the Election Commission with regard to his assets.BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan and senior leader and MLA  O Rajagopal met Sathasivam and handed over a letter demanding the minister’s disqualification.

Documentary proof of the minister’s assets was also handed over to the Governor, Kummanam said. The BJP has asked the Governor to investigate the matter and disqualify Chandy. The party has alleged  Chandy had amassed benami assets, but he had not disclosed his true financial worth in the affidavit.
He also failed to disclose the assets in the name of his wife and dependents. Under Section 177 of the IPC, furnishing false information is an offence which is punishable with imprisonment of up to six months, they said.
