THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is all set to launch ‘Chill Bus’, a new service of AC low floor Volvo buses, from August 1. As many as 180 services will operate across the state, including Thiruvananthapuram - Kasargod route.
The trial run of 20 buses from two major hubs - Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam - will commence on Monday. The bus service, part of the ‘Connecting Kerala’ initiative, is being introduced to redeploy the corporation’s idle buses into service.
With the new move, the KSRTC aims to streamline its crew management, staff deployment and resize its staff strength in addition to increase service efficiency. The trial run is being done to avoid operational difficulties due to a large number of services.
“The Chill Bus services will strictly comply with the time schedule. Proper cleaning and maintenance will be taken care of,” said KSRTC MD Tomin J Thachankary.
Under the Connecting Kerala concept, Chill Bus services will operate at an interval of every one hour from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasargod and to the eastern and western districts.
