Engineering student drowns in Vamanpuram​ river

A 19-year-old boy drowned in the Vamanpuram river near Venjaramoodu on Monday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 19-year-old boy drowned in the Vamanpuram river near Venjaramoodu on Monday. The deceased is Gopikrishnan, the son of Kannan and Sugandhi, residents of Siva Bhavan at Karippur in Nedumangad. He was a second-year student of Udaya Engineering College, Nagercoil.

The Venjaramoodu police have registered a case.According to the police, the incident took place at around 4.30 pm when Gopikrishnan and six of his friends came to the riverbank in Aruvippuram. Three of them, including Gopikrishnan, decided to take a bath and ventured into the river.

Gopikrishnan was swept away by the strong undercurrents and apparently drowned. Though he was taken to the government hospital in Nedumangad, he was declared dead on arrival.The body will be handed over to the family after a post-mortem on Tuesday.
