KALPETTA: Wayanad District Collector S Suhas has launched a detailed inquiry into the allegations raised by a few tribal students against their school authorities, saying the latter did not allow the students to write the SSLC examination which was concluded across the state in March.

“I am inquiring into the matter and will soon prepare a detailed report which will be submitted before the Director of Public Instructions (DPI) on Wednesday,” Suhas told Express on Monday. The incident came to light after a group of three tribal students of Neervaram Government Higher Secondary School alleged the school authorities did not allow them to appear for the Class X final exams saying it will affect the pass percentage of the institution.

The school authorities defended their decision saying the students were absent continuously for 15 days and lacked the attendance percentage required to appear for the exam. The district education authorities had also probed the incident and submitted a report to the DPI.“We found the students were absent for several days despite receiving continuous warnings from their teachers,” said Deputy Director of Education (DDE) Baburajan M.
