KOCHI: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the construction of a new super speciality block and a cancer block, and will also present a Linac machine to the public here at the General Hospital on Thursday in the presence of Health Minister K K Shailaja.

The Linac machine which provides radiation therapy will be a great relief to cancer patients in and around the district. The Rs 10.2 crore Linac project was finished with the help of MP funds of Dr B Jayasree, Mrunal Miri, H K Duwa, Dr Ashok Ganguly, K T S Thulsi and K Parasharan; funds from Cochin Shipyard, BPCL, the Synthite Group, Canara Bank and Rotary Club Cochin.

The super specialty block is a project estimated at Rs 76 crore and was approved by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board.The National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Health care providers (NABH) certificate will also be handed over to the hospital authorities on the occasion. Ernakulam General Hospital becomes the first hospital in the state to win the NABH accreditation thrice: first in 2011, in 2014 and now.District Collector Muhammed Y Safirulla, Hibi Eden MLA, former MP P Rajeev, Mayor Soumini Jain and MP K V Thomas will attend.
