‘Ernakulam General Hospital shows how government hospitals can excel’

KOCHI: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the Ernakulam General Hospital’s new super speciality and cancer block. He also inaugurated the Linear accelerator, an advanced radiotherapy machine. Addressing the gahering, the CM lauded the professionalism displayed by the GH which showed the hospitals in the public sector can indeed excel.

“The professional approach of the Ernakulam General Hospital goes to show the government-run hospitals can indeed excel,” he said .  Pinarayi sought to rubbish talk of the KIIFB’s alleged failure to fund projects. According to him, if the formalities are followed properly,  the projects can take off in no time. Hibi Eden MLA

Health Minister K K Shylaja underscored the need for prevention rather than the cure in her address. “We should have concentrated on prevention but the focus remained on curative steps. But the LDF Government has adopted a back-to-basics approach. From primary health centres to the Medical Colleges, we are undertaking comprehensive development. The results are beginning to show,”  she said.
Mayor Soumini Jain, K V Thomas MP,  Hibi Eden MLA, District Collector K Muhammed Y Safeerulla, GCDA chairman C N Mohanan and CPM district chief  P Rajeev were present.
