No differences in CPI(M)'s Kerala unit: Kodiyeri Balakrishnan

Balakrishnan said that during the 2015 state committee meet at Alapuzha, the party had ensured that factionalism at the highest level was rooted out.

THRISSUR: Unlike in the past, factionalism does not have an epicentre in Kerala and there is no more factionalism in Kerala CPM.CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said this while talking to reporters at the end of the four-day CPM state conference on Sunday. “The specific scenario of factionalism that existed in Kerala CPM since 1991 has been fully wiped out,” he said. In an apparent reference to the factional feud between party veteran V S Achuthanandan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan which haunted the party for long, Kodiyeri said the issue has been fully resolved. “Now there is collective leadership. There are no differing voices in the party. It now speaks in a single voice. People do not rally behind a particular leader. Instead, they are rallying behind the party. That is the special thing now,” Kodiyeri said.

The CPM resolution against VS was the most significant development at the last party conference.
“With the politburo’s help, the last conference implemented several measures to end factional feuds. This time around, factionalism at the district levels has been eradicated too. This was evident at all 14 district conferences of the party. There is now unity in the party. The collective leadership will help in further enhancing organisational strength and, in turn, will lead to ensuring public support,” he said.

The draft political resolution for the 22nd party congress has made it clear that BJP is the prime enemy and all possible steps should be taken to unseat it. However, there should not be any alliance or understanding with the Congress. “Even in 2004, the Left front had gone ahead with a similar perspective. The need is to weaken neo-liberal policies. As of now, there is no decision for any electoral alliance with the Congress. In an apparent reference to reports over general secretary Sitaram Yechury silencing his critics at the state conference, Kodiyeri said media reports in this regard were factually incorrect. Somebody has deliberately misled the media, he said.

No cabinet reshuffle
The state conference reviewed the performance of ministers and urged them to ensure initiatives to implement schemes as per the LDF manifesto in a time bound manner. No decisions were taken on a cabinet reshuffle.

Meet concludes  with mega rally
Thrissur:
The curtain came down on the CPM state conference at the Thekkin-kadu Ground here on Sunday with a heavily attended public meeting. Over 25,000 party volunteers, including 10,000 women cadre, clad in red and waving party flags marched to the venue of the meeting from four different spots in the town before the public meeting commenced. CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury inaugurated the meeting with the party’s state chief  Kodiyeri Balakri-shnan  presiding over it. Yechury said the RSS and the BJP represent the darkness of the past while the CPM represents the light of the future.

No special consideration  from police
Kodiyeri said the CPM cadre need not get any special consideration from the police. “At the same time, justice should not be denied to them just because they are CPM workers. If there are any such issues, it should be brought to the government’s attention,” he said
