Abhimanyu murder: 63 held in preventive custody in Ernakulam Rural

KOCHI: As part of the crackdown on activities of the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its feeder organisations in the background of the murder of an SFI student in Maharaja's College, the Ernakulam Rural Police have taken its 63 workers in preventive custody.

A total of 55 cases have been registered in this regard. Of the arrested, 25 are leaders while 38 are cadres, according to the officers.

In Ernakulam Rural, the highest number of cases were registered in Muvattupuzha police station. One case is registered in Aluva East police station while three cases registered in Aluva West police station. Edathala-1, Chengamanad-1, North Paravur-3, Kunnathunadu-3. Thadiattaparambu-4, Muvattupuzha-21, Kothamangalam-5, Oonnukal-1, Kaloorkadu-1, Pothanikadu-1 and Mulanthuruthi-2.

Police had yesterday carried out raids at the offices and residences of some leaders and workers of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in various parts of the state.

According to PTI, the police are also investigating the role of radical elements, participated in a march organised by SDPI towards the High Court last year, in the killing of Abhimanyu.

The police probing the 'brutal' killing of an SFI leader today decided to seek legal opinion on whether the case allegedly involving activists of an Islamic outfit attracts provisions under anti-terror law.

Kerala Police Chief Loknath Behera said, "there is no doubt about conspiracy" in the killing of second year degree student of Ernakulam Maharajas College, Abhimanyu, hailing from a backward Tamil tribal area in Idukki district.

The killers, allegedly workers of Popular Front of India (PFI) and its student wing Campus Front and political offshoot Social Democratic Party pf India (SDPI), had come from outside to attack SFI workers in the college campus, he said.

    Why 63 persons arrested for a murder? This shows police is incapable of identifying who is the real killer. Will police arrest this many persons number when BJP and communist kill each other? And the communists are topping the murder rate amount all other parties in kerala
