KOCHI: DGP Loknath Behera told media persons the murder of Abhimanyu was executed as per a plan.
“If anyone is trying to convert the college into a battlefield, it won’t be allowed. Some persons from outside the campus are involved in the case. The use of a sharp weapon itself shows a plan. We’re on the job,” said Behera.
Ernakulam Central ACP K Laljy said the search has been intensified to find those who are on the run. A team led by CI A Ananthalal, under the monitoring of Laljy, is investigating the case.
The city police have also moved the court seeking custody of three of the arrested persons, who are now remanded in judicial custody. Officers said they expect to get them on Thursday when they will be further interrogated. Meanwhile, officers stated the accused carrying the knife itself points to the preparation made them ahead of the crime.
“Using a knife to stab a person is definitely with the intention of murder. Unlike the case of hacking to escape from an attack, usage of knife would be more fatal as there is a chance of it piercing internal organs,” said a senior police officer. Citing the autopsy report, a police officer said the deceased must have died minutes after stabbing. The fatal wound was between the ribs on left chest and it pierced the heart, causing death, the officer said.
Abhimanyu, 20, son of Manoharan, hailing from Vattavada in Idukki was murdered in the early hours of Monday. The murder was following a scuffle over using the compound wall to paint graffiti in support of the Students Federation of India and Campus Front.
