KOCHI: Contradicting the version put out by Cardinal Mar George Alenchery’s office denying his meeting with the Catholic nun, who has accused Jalandhar Bishop Franco Mullakkal of serial sexual exploitation, the father of a nun from Cherthala, who was a convent mate of the victim for two years, revealed he had indeed petitioned Alenchery on November 23, 2017, seeking punitive action against the disgraced bishop.
K M Varghese, father of Sr Anupama, said Mullackal had made his daughter sign a letter in which many baseless allegations were written against the victim. Varghese said he had accompanied the victim and Sr Neena Rose to the Ernakulam Bishop House to submit a petition to the Cardinal. He said they met the Cardinal and Alenchery had a 20-minute closed door discussion with the victim. Emerging from the room, the Cardinal urged Varghese not to reveal the incidents to the media and police. Varghese said in his letter two years ago, his daughter returned to Kuruvilangad convent under Pala diocese.
“In May 2017, Mother General of Jalandhar Convent contacted and asked her to report there immediately. She was posted at a convent 300 km away from Jalandhar. On November 5, Sr Annie Rose took her to the Bishop House where Mullackal along with Mother General threatened her and made her sign a letter.”
