THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran has directed all District Congress Committee (DCC) chiefs to activate the grassroot party machinery so that the UDF awareness programmes on Sabarimala turn into a grand success.

The UDF is upbeat that its programme at Putharikandam Maidan here on October 22 was a success thanks to the participation of cadre from all constituent parties.“Congress workers across the state are geared up for making the programmes a huge success. We have to make people aware of the dangerous game being played by the CPM and the Chief Minister in association with the RSS and BJP in an issue which is close to the heart of the believers and the people of the state,” said Mullappally.

The second phase will begin in Kottayam on October 27, followed by a series of programmes across the state till November 10. Senior UDF leaders such as A K Antony and Oommen Chandy will attend the programmes.

“The UDF is conducting these programmes mainly to bring in a general awareness among the public that the CM and his arrogance is tearing the state apart and also that he is in close association with the RSS-BJP combine. We want to expose this unholy nexus, which will create unnecessary friction in society,” said Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala.

Congress leaders are of the opinion that along with creating an awareness against the government, the campaign will rejuvenate the party machinery.Muslim League national organising secretary E T Mohammed Basheer said, “The Muslim League is fully involved in the programme and all our leaders will be present at various programmes across the state. We are with the believers and our campaigns will help people understand what is happening in Sabarimala and what the agenda of the CPM and government is.”
With Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan conducting public programmes across the state and speaking about the Congress entering into an understanding with the BJP-RSS combine, the onus is on the UDF and Congress to defend themselves.
