BHUBANESWAR: Hours after Malaysia confirmed its first case of swine flu, the State Government today issued guidelines to ports and entry points to keep a strict watch on visitors.

The Paradip Port Trust (PPT) said that crew and visitors from the affected countries are being checked, while provision for quarantine has been put in place too.

The State Government which reviewed preparedness against the influenza has instructed all Chief District Medical Officers to carry out surveillance for flu like illness and severe acute respiratory infection.

Cluster cases have to be reported at once.

While the State Rapid Response Team has been put on alert, medical college authorities and district hospitals were asked to keep isolation wards ready while stocking Tamifu tablets, personal protective equipment and masks.

All CDMOs and superintendents of medical colleges have been issued guidelines on clinical management of cases and procedures of sample collection as well as transportation.

At the State Coordination Committee meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Ajit Kumar Tripathy here on Friday, Fishery and Animal Resources Development Department said that pig population and their movement through bordering districts are being monitored.

While control rooms have been set up in each district with a central unit at the Directorate of Animal Husbandry and veterinary Services, information dissemination on symptoms of swine influenza are also being watched.
