BHUBANESWAR: A fast track court today convicted and handed out life imprisonment to Bichitrananda Nath for murdering a peon of Congress Bhawan four years back. Judge of the Fast Track Court No. 3 Vivekananda Das found Nath guilty of murder and concealment of evidence of offence. He was sentenced to life imprisonment under Section 302 and three years RI under Section 201 of the Indian Penal Code. Both sentences would run concurrently. On September 9, 2006, Kaibalya, a peon with Congress Bhawan, was found brutally murdered in a government quarter just behind the party office in Unit II area.

The quarter was allotted to Surya Bhanu Mishra, an AICC member and a socio-cultural organisation was operating from there.

Two youths Trilochan Dharua and Ranjan Sahu were staying in that quarter.

According to police, Nath had personal issues with Kaibalya. He had asked him to come to the government quarter in absence of the two youths and killed him. About a month later, Nath surrendered. He was an attendant with a former Pradesh Congress Committee president.
