CUTTACK: The East Hostel dispute in Ravenshaw University is still some time away from a visible resolution with the Orissa High Court today allowing the Justice AK Parichcha-led peace committee more time for submission of reports.

The committee, which had been directed by the Court to submit two separate reports on the issue by today, sought more time to complete its proceedings.

The East Hostel issue which had virtually crippled the University for over a fortnight since October 28 had become sub judice with two PILs filed for speedy resolution of the dispute. The dispute arose from the moves of the University authorities to convert the hostel to a girls hostel which faced stiff opposition from the existing boarders and freshers who had been admitted this year.

Two former students’ union presidents of the Ravenshaw College Akshaya Kumar Das and Chittaranjan Mohanty had sought restoration of normalcy on the campus while the other PIL filed by Subendu Mohanty had argued for accommodation of boys, particularly the present boarders and the fresh admissions carried out by the University.

The prolonged agitation had forced the Court to step in and form a peace committee under Justice Parichcha. The committee has been directed to examine the ground reality and submit two reports.
