A glittering ceremony crowded by known faces from the film fraternity marked the 43rd annual festival of the four-decade-old Oriya film magazine Banichitra, published from Cuttack.

The event that was organised at Rabindra Mandap here saw participation of eminent film personalities including actor and director Gopala Ghosh and Prashanta Nanda. The Banichitra annual awards for cinema for the year 2010 were also presented.

As many as 16 personalities and 51 actors from film and theatre background were awarded in different categories.

Legendary actor Niranjan Satapathy was conferred the highest honour - Banichitra Samman - for his contribution to stage and cinema. Besides, music composer and lyricist Swaroop Nayak and film journalist Haraprasad Mohapatra were felicitated.

To Akhire Mu bagged the best film of the year while Sudhanshu Mohan Sahu was awarded the best director for the film Swayamsiddha.

Chinmaya Das Pattnaik got the best screenplay writer award for the film Tu Tha Mu Jauchi Rushi. Best music director award was bagged by Rabi Nanda  for Pahili Raja.

Akash Das Nayak and Archita got best actor and best actress award respectively for the film Alo Mora Kandhei. Receiving the award, Akash said,”Alo Mora Kandhei is close to my heart. Being a special movie, receiving an award for it is definitely a pleasant experience.”

Sabhyasachi Mishra got the best actor (critic) award for Tora Mora Jodi Sundara.

Among others, industrialist Kumar Haldar, producer Amiya Patnaik and Banichitra editor Parikshita Jena were present.
