As many as 70 passengers of a bus were injured in an accident on Nilagiri-Udala Road in Balasore district on Wednesday. Nine of them were grievously injured and all admitted to Nilagiri sub-divisional hospital and Balasore district headquarters hospital.
Sources said the mishap occurred near Nilagiri bus stand when the overloaded Udala-bound bus overturned after the driver lost control over the steering. The bus was reportedly carrying around 150 passengers, some seated atop. While the bus driver and other crew fled the scene, locals rushed the injured to the hospitals. Police said most of the passengers were allowed to go home after administering first aid while the injured have been admitted to Balasore hospital.
The grievously injured were shifted to SCB Medical, Cuttack. A case has been registered.
