A girl had a miraculously escape after she was raped, assaulted and thrown into the swollen Mahanadi river here. The girl has been admitted to Boudh Hospital and the accused identified as Ranjit Bag of Tutusingha and Yudhistir Bisi of Nuapali, both under Boudh, have been arrested by the police.

As per reports, the 19-year-old victim from Khan Nagar of Cuttack had relationship with Ranjit over last two years. Although they were scheduled to marry, due to some reasons the wedding could not materialise. On Sunday, Ranjit was bringing the girl to Boudh from Cuttack in a car. On the way, Yudhistir got inside the car and both of them raped the girl before assaulting her. Later in the night, they threw her into the flooded Mahanadi hoping that she would drown.

However, as destiny would have it, after battling for survival for about two hours, the girl managed to reach the river bank at Marzadkud and was rescued by villagers.

On Monday morning, they informed the police who shifted the girl to Boudh Hospital. On information provided by her, cops nabbed the accused duo.
