Irrigation projects put on fast track

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday directed the Water Resources Department officials to expedite work on irrigation projects in Nabarangpur district.

The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of Indravati, Turi-Guntat and lower Bhaskel irrigation projects at a high-level meeting in the Secretariat here. Besides, he also asked the officials to start work on check dams and mega lift irrigation projects in the district.

Official sources said the State Government has set a target to irrigate 15,000 hectares through the Indravati project. Survey work for the project has been started. Besides, 1,489 hectares have been targeted to be irrigated in the district through four check dams in the Indravati river. The four check dams will be constructed at Tokiguda, Bhitarbadi, Miniguda and Bangala guda.

The mega lift irrigation projects will be set up at Dahibhat, Ekamba, Nuagaon and Parajaguda of Chandahandi block in the district for providing irrigation to 4,080 hectares.

Nabarangpur MLA Manohan Randhari, Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik and senior officials were present.
