An illegal cement godown has been found near Berhampur railway station. The godown had stocked several reputed brands of cement bags as well as empty gunny bags. Around 4,000 packed cement bags were seized.

“The godown owner used to sell low-grade cement using various brand names,” Sub-Collector, Berhampur, Ajit Mishra said, adding that no one has claimed ownership of the godown. The raid was conducted on Wednesday jointly by the commercial taxes, Vigilance and police officers.

The officials also raided a fertiliser shop at Gramdevati street on the allegations of adulteration and collected samples. Since the shop owner violated the norm of display of stock, he was served a show cause.
