4 mines defused in Malkangiri

In less than 24 hours, the Border Security Forces (BSF) of Sikhpalli post on Friday detected four more mines near a tree here. The previous day, a bomb disposal squad from Bhubaneswar had defused  three PETN made Codec pressure live mines.

The BSF, with the help of sniffer dogs, detected the four mines during a search operation, SP Akhileswar Singh said. On being informed by the BSF, the SP, accompanied by BSF 39th Battalion Commandant Gur Iqbal Singh Mand and the bomb disposal squad from the district headquarters, rushed to the spot. The squad, in an hour-long operation, first defused the mines and later exploded it.

The BSF suspects more pressure mines being planted at different places targeting them.

Landmines Seized Nuapada: Panic gripped villages bordering Gariabandh district in the neighboring Chhattisgarh after security forces recovered 11 landmines from Konthad, about 2 km from the Odisha border, on Friday.

Gariabandh SP Ram Gopal Garg said the seizure averted a major incident. Combing operation has been intensified, he added.
