Lakshya test-fired

The Air Force personnel on Thursday tested an advanced version of Pilot-less Target Aircraft (PTA), known as Lakshya, from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur here.

A couple of more trials of the remotely controlled air vehicle have been planned in the ensuing days.

Claiming the test as a success, defence sources said flying at sea skimming height of about 15 metres Lakshya, unmanned aerial vehicle flight-tested during noon, demonstrated its full capability.  A defence official said in a flight lasting over 30 minutes, it was made to dive down from an altitude of around 800 metres to just 12 m and maintained the required altitude for the specified time before demonstrating auto climb-out.  The entire flight was pre-programmed.
