Brick kiln: Family held bondage

A family of six is allegedly being held bondage by a brick kiln owner of Urmila village in Medhak district of Andhra Pradesh.

 Narendra Kalet (45), Gulapi Kalet (42), Sanjaya Kalet (18), Jyoti (16), Bablu (14) and Muni (12) of Sargul village of Muribahal block had migrated in search of work in 2009. Amar Bariha of Patnagarh had got them job in the brick kiln.

Narendra’s brother Jalindra recently met the District Labour Officer (DLO) and the SP and requested them to ensure their release. Eight more families, who had left home with them, are also being held bondage, sources said.

DLO Pradeep Kumar Bhoi said the middleman is absconding but investigation is on and he will soon contact his counterparts in Andhra Pradesh to rescue the family.
