Five fertiliser godowns sealed

Five fertiliser godowns were sealed by the Agriculture Department officials with the help of local administration on Monday.

Raids were conducted on allegations of embezzlement of fertiliser stocks. The godowns belong to one Basu Sahu, a businessman of Balangir town.

Officials said similar raids will be conducted at other such godowns in the area.

Deputy Director of Agriculture, Manoranjan Mallick, said the raids are being carried out to streamline distribution of fertilisers and seeds.

Two Held for Theft

Bholanath Barik and Lochan Behera of Khaliapali area were arrested on Sunday night by Balangir GRP for their alleged

involvement in theft of railway property and sugar meant for Public Distribution System.

The railway police have seized six bags of sugar, angles used to join tracks, four tarpaulin sheets, one fish plate and a signal staircase from them. Police said during interrogation, the two revealed names of three more persons involved in the crime and efforts are on to nab them.
