Firing in Baranga: Salesman shot at

A day after a youth was gunned down in Unit VI area of Capital and a Jagannath Temple priest shot dead in Puri, a salesman of a country liquor outlet at Baranga was shot at by an unidentified miscreant inside the shop on Thursday afternoon.

The salesman Chabbi Sahani, though, has escaped with minor injuries as the bullet scraped his leg. He has been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital here.

According to reports, the incident occurred at around 4 pm. Chabbi was in the liquor outlet at Baranga Bazaar when he heard the door in the rear creaking. He got up to find a person aiming a pistol at him. The man, with a biker’s helmet on, shot one round. As Chhabi was hit on the leg, the man fled on a black Pulsar motorcycle that was parked nearby.

The motive is yet to be ascertained. As the miscreant did not loot anything from the shop, it is not being deemed a robbery attempt. The salesman is also stated to be innocent. Issues or disputes of the owner with anyone are being looked into, police said. A case has been registered by police in this connection.
