Sub-standard road work under PMGSY alleged

Former BJP legislator Shankar Oram has shot off a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik seeking inquiry into sub-standard works of a rural road under the Pradhan Mantri  Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)  in Bisra block of Sundargarh district.

Oram said the 6.5-km stretch of the under-construction Sarubhal-Erla road has been taken up by Rural Development (RD) Department at a cost of Rs 3.11 crore.

Though the road works are half way through, the soil testing was never done, he alleged and accused the contractor of violating  several norms.

He also alleged that of the 19 morrum samples only one was found quality worthy, adding that while quality morrum was used for laying one-km stretch, the rest of the stretch was laid with sub-standard morrum.

Moreover, the sand-morrum mixture was not proportionate and apprehended sustainability of the road.
