Farmers of Hilung, Uphula and Bagbar panchayats in the district staged a demonstration in front of Birmaharajpur Tehsil office demanding release of more water to the canals under Hariharjoar irrigation project on Wednesday.
The farmers said with their areas receiving less rainfall, it has become difficult to save the crop. Since the panchayats are located at the end of the canal network, they are not receiving adequate water leaving them in dire straits.
They also submitted a memorandum on the issue to the Chief Minister through the Tehsildar.
Tehsildar Binod Senapati assured them of taking up their cause with the Irrigation Department.
