CR Pal panel’s tenure extended again

The tenure of Justice CR Pal Commission, appointed by the State Government to investigate into the demands for permanent benches of the High Court in South and Western Odisha, has been extended till December 31,2013.

According to information collected through RTI from Home Department, the Commission was appointed in 2008 and scheduled to submit its report within six months. However, the report  on HC bench demand is yet to be submitted.

Since its formation, the State Government has extended tenure of the CR Pal Commission 10 times and each tenure was for six months.

The last extension was to end by June 30.

Lawyers Threaten to Intensify Stir

Sambalpur: The Central Action Committee of all bar association of Western Odisha have given ultimatum of August 15 to the State Government to take a final call on establishment of HC bench in the region.

Failing this, members of the committee would close down all Government offices and courts in the region during the entire monsoon session of the State Assembly.

This was informed by the agitating lawyers who resorted to economic blockade over the demand on Wednesday here.

They have been resorting to economic blockade on the last three working days of every month demanding establishment of the HC bench.
