Lightning strikes stadium, kill 2

Two spectators were killed and five others injured when lightning struck while they were watching a football match on Sunday at Jalda C Block mini-stadium here under RN Pali police limits.

The deceased were identified as Bangali Purty (24) and Samra Tirkey (26) who died on the spot at around 3.45 pm.

Police said the injured persons Sandip Horo, Mangra Munda, Bando Xess, Dinesh Lakra and Amit Oram in the age group of 25 to 30 years, with burn injuries are recuperating at the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH).

The deceased Purty belonged to K Balang area while Tirkey and injured persons are residents of Patratoli area of Jalda A Block.

The bodies would be sent for autopsy on Monday.

In another incident, one Subarna Bar (36) was killed after lightning struck him on the outskirts of Kheriakani village under Dharuadihi police limits in Sundargarh district. Bar was working in his agricultural field when he was struck by lightning.
