Acquisition of land under scanner

A high-level inquiry into the land acquired by the Deepak Ispat in Lakhanpur block of Jharsuguda district is in progress.

Sources said more than 750 acres of cultivated land had been purchased in different villages adopting unfair practice in violation of Odisha Land Reform Act. Considering the importance of the case, Revenue Minister SN Patra had directed the district administration to submit a fact finding report to the government within a fortnight.

While the issue is under investigation, Tehsildar of Lakhanpur block on June 10 registered a land ceiling case and issued notice to Haricharan Gupta fixing hearing on August 17. Till date, district administration has located around 221.56 acres in six villages purchased in the name of Deepak Ispat and is hopeful that the total land will be identified soon. ADM BB Behera assured that all the things will be clear within four days.
