Five swamp deer gave Nandankanan Zoological Park officials a tough day after they escaped out of their enclosure following a freak mishap on Monday.
The deer had managed to scale enclosure fence after it was twisted from under impact of a fallen tree branch. As zoo officials went after deer, animals jumped into Kanjia Lake and swam towards Botanical Garden. Boats were pressed to chase them.
The animal keepers, forest guards and foresters surrounded them from botanical garden’s side and managed to capture.
The whole exercise, which started at 11.30 am and ended at about 4 pm, was supervised by Zoo Director Sudarshan Panda.Since Monday is closed for visitors, it was easy for the officials to capture the animals.
