11th village too rejects mining

Rayagada district’s Lakhapadar has become the 11th village to vote against mining at Niyamgiri hills. On Wednesday, as many as 97 voters turned up at the gram sabha and rejected bauxite mining proposal claiming their religious rights on the hills.

The largest of the 12 villages in Rayagada and Kalahandi districts selected for conduct of the gram sabha, Lakhapadar was emphatic in its voice against mining.

The total number of voters in village stands at 130 of which 58 women and 39 men turned up for the gram sabha.

Jorapa is the last village to go in for the gram sabha on August 19.
