A 27-year-old resident of Keonjhar died of dengue at the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack on Wednesday.
Manas Mandal of Hatadihi village was rushed to the hospital at about 3.30 pm in a critical condition. While he tested positive for dengue, his platelet count kept dropping. He succumbed at about 7.45 pm. It is the first official dengue death in the State this year. So far, 731 persons have been diagnosed with dengue in Odisha. On Wednesday, at least 38 new cases were detected, 21 of them from Cuttack itself. Eight cases were reported from Khurda district.
