The city police arrested a builder for cheating an IAF officer who had paid him for a plot of land near Khurda more than a year ago.

Nirmal Behera, promoter of Simax Builders, had taken Rs 2.62 lakh from Saroj Kar, Wing Commander of IAF, in 2012 for a patch of land in Dhinkarida near Khurda. However, Behera neither registered the land in Kar’s name nor returned the money.

After running to Behera’s office for several months, Sahid Nagar Police said Kar managed to get back about Rs 1 lakh. Although the builder had carried out an agreement saying that the money will be returned at 18 per cent rate of interest in the event of non-registration, Behera did not keep his word. After Kar lodged an FIR, Sahid Nagar police arrested Behera.
