Two held for builder's murder

City Police on Friday arrested two persons in connection with the sensational murder of builder Krushna Chandra Nayak on August 12. Two revolvers used in the offence have been seized.

The two accused, Tarini Patnaik, a builder himself, and Suraj Sharma, were on the crime scene, police said. Tarini is alleged to have pulled the trigger on Nayak.

Nayapalli Police, which had detained the two immediately after the murder and kept questioning them, suspect the role of at least a third person who is believed to have kept tabs on Nayak and provided information about his movements.

“We are not ruling out the role of more in the conspiracy,” said an officer. A history of enmity between Nayak and Patnaik is the motive behind the murder, police said. In March 2011, Patnaik had a close brush with death when he came under attack. Police had arrested Nayak and his sons for the attack during which they were believed to have fired seven rounds at Patnaik.

“Since then, the two sides were playing  cat and mouse and Patnaik was constantly under fear of attack on his life which allegedly prompted him to eliminate Nayak,” police said.

Last week, Nayak’s son had alleged that some suspicious elements were moving near  his house and apprehended threat to his family’s life.

Patnaik too had made similar allegations.

Besides the two firearms, two live ammunition have also been seized by the police from their possession. The two have been produed before a local court. Investigation is underway.
