58 held in special drive

The special drive and blocking by Commissionerate Police on Thursday and Friday nights have led to successful execution of a number of warrants in the Twin City. The police arrested 58 persons using non-bailable warrants issued by various courts.

During the drive, which was monitored by Police Commissioner Dr RP Sharma and other senior officers, at least 350 two-wheelers and four-wheelers were checked and  157 violators were penalised. At least ` 1.90 lakh was collected as fine under Odisha Urban Policing Act and Motor Vehicles Act.

Similarly, the police submitted 28 prosecution reports under Section 110 of CrPC against habitual offenders.

Student Ends Life

Samita Pradhan (22), a second year MCA student of a private engineering college committed suicide by jumping into river Daya on Saturday. She was a resident of Banamalipur village under Balipatna block. Her family members alleged that Samita was depressed over non-payment of college fees since they were going through a tough phase financially.
