Sanskrit teacher of Deulbera Model High School at Talcher Munu Charan Behera was arrested by Colliery police for allegedly molesting a girl student of the school.
Though the incident took place on Friday, it came to light on Saturday when the student informed her parents about it.
When locals came to know about the incident, they reached the school, beat up the 45-year-old teacher before handing him over to police.
They also staged a road blockade at Handidhua Chowk demanding stringent action against Behera.
The agitators were pacified after the Colliery police assured them of taking action against the teacher.
Five girl students later lodged an FIR at the Colliery police station alleging that Behera had made sexual advances towards them, besides molesting the girl in question.
