Elderly dies in stray bull fight in Bhubaneswar

The death of an elderly person due to bull fight in the City on Tuesday has brought to fore the poor stray cattle management by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The victim, Surya Prakash Mishra (60), was going with his wife Neelima Mishra (55) on a two-wheeler, when two fighting bulls came rushing towards them near Badagada Square. Mishra lost his balance and fell down.

One of the bulls grievously injured Mishra who died on spot. His wife, who also sustained serious injuries, was admitted to hospital in a critical condition.

A crowd gathered immediately at the sight of the accident.

When the ambulance arrived almost half an hour after being informed, the agitated crowd damaged it. Neelima had been rushed to the hospital before the arrival of the ambulance.

The incident has once again proved inefficiency of the BMC in handling stray cattle menace in major thoroughfares of the City. The BMC has just one operational kine house. Besides, its cattle catching arm is in a limbo for the past few months.
