Teachers lock up colleges in Cuttack

Members of the 662 Category College Association locked up all the 44 colleges in Cuttack district and staged a demonstration before the Assembly in Bhubaneswar on Thursday to press their demand for converting 40 per cent block grant to full grant-in-aid.

Sources said the Government had decided to increase their salary to ` 13,900 per month which was rejected by the association. All the teachers of these colleges have applied for mass casual leave for three days to participate in the demonstration.

“Unless our demands are fulfilled, we will not open the colleges,” said a Principal of this category college.

Meanwhile students of the colleges are facing problem in applying for scholarship. If the teachers’ agitation continues, they will not be able to apply for scholarship as the last day of submitting the application is August 25.

Parents of the students have threatened to join the teachers if the Government fails to take any step on their demand.
