The State Election Commission (SEC) has asked Minister of State for Steel and Mines Rajanikant Singh to submit a report on allegation that he had sent a fax message from his government land phone here to the official telephone of Angul Collector having the list of BJD candidates of the district.
The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) on Saturday submitted a memorandum to the SEC describing the act of the Minister as a violation of model code of conduct which is in force in the State for elections to the urban local bodies (ULBs).
The memorandum signed by OPCC president Jaydev Jena took exception to the burning of effigies of the Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi on the issue of special category state (SCS) status for Odisha. He said it violated Section 5 of Chapter two of model code. The BJD workers also blocked the National Highway and created law and order problem disrupting the congenial atmosphere for holding the ULB polls, he said.
