Students clash in RIE,1 hurt

Tension flared up in Regional Institute of Education (RIE) here following a clash between two groups of students on Monday night. One student suffered injuries in the incident.

The incident occurred in Homi Bhabha Hostel, the only gents hostel of the institute.

Two groups fought over what is alleged to be ragging of a first year student though it could not be ascertained.

Principal Prof KB Rath, Chief Warden Prof Pritish Acharya and Warden RK Mahalik tried to intervene. When things got out of control, the RIE management intimated the matter to Sahid Nagar Police which rushed to the spot and took control of the situation.

Inspector in-charge of Sahid Nagar police station KP Mishra said it was a group clash and details are being investigated.

Sushil Prasad, student of two-year BEd course was allegedly assaulted by some  students of Integrated BEd course, he added. An FIR has been lodged against 13 students.

Seven students have been picked up for questioning.
