Four held for dowry death

Four persons of a family of Gola Damodarpalli under Dharakote police limits in Ganjam district were arrested on charge of dowry death on Monday.

According to sources, Manasi, daughter of Chitrasen Pradhan of Bhanjanagar was married to Tukuna, son of Sibaram Sahu of Gola Damodarpalli under Dharakote police station five years ago. Though dowry was given as per demand at the time of marriage, Tukuna’s family started torturing Manasi for more dowry.

On Sunday night, Manasi died in her husband’s house under suspicious circumstances. Her father alleged that Manasi’s in-laws had killed her while Tukuna’s family claimed that Manasi committed suicide by hanging herself.

On being informed, police seized Manasi’s body and sent it for post-mortem. Tukuna, his father Sibaram, mother Ahalya and younger brother Narayan were arrested and produced before Aska JMFC court which remanded them to judicial custody on Tuesday.
