Vehicle theft gang busted, kingpin held

Commissionerate Police on Tuesday claimed to have busted an inter-district vehicle lifting gang, arresting four members including the kingpin from Cuttack and other places. Nine motorcycles and a Bolero SUV have been seized.

According to sources, Badambadi police sniffed the racket while investigating into theft of a couple of motorcycles from the area recently. They intercepted the kingpin Sheikh Umer of Manikgada area under Bolgad police limits during the vehicle checking operations in the city. He was found to be riding a stolen motorcycle. In custody, he reportedly spilled the beans leading to three other associates Khursid Ali alias Munna of Suakhaihat under Cuttack Sadar police limits, Sk Babur under Pira Bazaar and Pradip Sethi of Boudh. On the basis of their information, eight more motorcycles and the SUV were seized.

The motorcycles had been stolen from different parts of Cuttack and Choudwar while the Bolero was jacked from Nemal in March.

The gang used to sell the two-wheelers for Rs 5,000-6000 while the Bolero was allegedly sold in Boudh for Rs 50,000, police said.
