Disease spreading for government inertia: BJP

The BJP on Thursday lashed out at the State Government for its failure to check the spread of dengue.

BJP spokersperson Sameer Mohanty said though dengue has spread to most of the districts in the State, the Government does not seem to be perturbed. The Health department has failed to take any effective measure to save the lives of people.

Stating that the loss of three more lives is sad and unfortunate, he attributed it to sheer apathy and callousness of the Government. Health Minister Damodar Rout has failed to handle his responsibility, he added.

The SCB Medical College Hospital at Cuttack has reported 1380 cases so far. On Wednesday, three more persons, Prafulla Behera and Dhrubaswaroop Swain of Angul district and one from Jajpur district, died of dengue in the hospital.

The situation is equally grim in the medical colleges at Burla and Berhampur.

While dengue patients are dying, the Minister and the doctors are citing different reasons for their death. Ironically, the doctors are not raising their voice fearing Rout, which in turn is proving fatal for the innocent people, Mohanty said.

Alleging that the Health Secretary has not visited any hospital so far, Mohanty asked the Government to come out with real figure of dengue victims.
